Rick Derringer was an American singer, guitarist, songwriter and producer. He first found success in the 1960s with his band The McCoys, whose debut single, “Hang On Sloopy,” became a #1 hit in 1965. The McCoys had seven songs chart in the Top 100. Derringer later worked extensively with Johnny and Edgar Winter, playing lead and rhythm guitar in their bands. He emerged as a solo artist after playing with Edgar Winter’s White Trash. After releasing All American Boy, Derringer found further success with his song “Rock And Roll, Hoochie Koo.” Derringer also collaborated and produced music for, among others, Steely Dan, Cyndi Lauper, Barbra Streisand, “Weird Al” Yankovic and Kiss. Sadly, Rick Derringer left us in May 2025.
