When you look to unlock the secret behind dozens of the most influential records in rock ‘n roll, Bobby Whitlock holds the keys. A Hammond organ prodigy born in Memphis and raised in the fertile atmosphere of Stax Records, Whitlock was first recruited by Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett as the first member of their legendary combo, Delaney and Bonnie and friends. From there, Whitlock caught the ear of Eric Clapton who brought him into his new project, Derek and the Dominos just in time to record their masterpiece, “Layla and Other Love Songs.” Concurrently, Clapton and Whitlock were also putting their stamp on George Harrison’s “All Things Must Pass.” Alongside numerous solo albums, Whitlock’s fingerprints can be found on The Rolling Stone’s “Exile on Main Street” and milestone records by Dr. John, Buddy Guy and many others. Bobby Whitlock signed off in August of 2025, but his signature sound will forever resound.
