If you tried to check all the boxes for Quincy Jones, you’d run out of ink. At age eleven he touched a piano for the first time. At 14 he was playing alongside his 16-year-old buddy Ray Charles. At 15, Lionel Hampton tried to hire him. By age 20, he was arranging for Count Basie, then for Dizzy Gillespie. After studying theory with the legendary Nadia Boulanger in Paris, he turned his focus on pop music, a world he would conquer and rule for the next half century. As a producer of films, musicals and records, a composer, a label owner, publisher and a catalyst for the careers of others, his body of work includes film scores, TV show themes and the #1 selling record of all time. He earned honorary degrees from Harvard, Princeton, Juilliard, the New England Conservatory, and the Berklee School of Music. He received a National Medal of Arts and a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship to go with his 28 Grammy Awards and 80 nominations. Quincy Jones. In the art of making records, he owns all the records.
