Dave Loggins’ most famous song was inspired, he claimed, by a fit of divine inspiration that overtook him one night in the early 70s. But while “Please Come to Boston” would be his only radio hit under his own name, his songs for others would decorate the country charts for decades to come. Willie Nelson, Tanya Tucker, Wynonna Judd and Toby Keith would be among the dozens of artists to cover and cowrite songs, as would the band Three Dog Night who rode “Pieces of April” to the top of the pop charts in 1972. Dave was inducted into the Nashville songwriters Hall of Fame in 1995. He would find his way back to the performing limelight in 1984 when his duet with Anne Murray won a Country Music Association Award. Dave Loggins died in July 2024 at age 74, but his songs play on.
